Matthew 5 – Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.
As Christians, we confess our faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ. Yet, Jesus warns us, that paying lip-service to Him will not save us. See Matthew 7:21-23 – Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of my Father in heaven. Today, I am reminded to review the teachings of Jesus, from The Sermon of the Mount.
Matthew 5 – Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Poor in Spirit – Spiritually desperate for the Wisdom of God
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Mourn – Weeping over our current condition, separated from God.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Meek – not arrogant or self-seeking but having the power of God under control to serve others in His will.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Hunger and thirsting for righteousness – putting their relationship with God, first.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Merciful – able to share and extend the forgiveness they have received towards others.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Pure in heart – surrendering to God’s will in complete sincerity.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God. Peacemakers – Striving to bring peace to others through their every action.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Persecuted because of righteousness – Expect nothing in return because we are still in a broken world.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Luke 6:46-49 beginning with, Why do you call me Lord, Lord, yet don’t do what I say? Are Christians today continuing to pray The Lord’s Prayer… that His will be done… but refuse to listen to Him so that we can learn what His will is and become obedient to His will?
We seem to have no problem listening to CNN, FOX, Google, Bill Gates, BLM, Hollywood, Disney, Medical experts, Educational experts, Scientific experts… in fact we take pride in joining a cause and calling ourselves, ‘ACTIVISTS’ as if that satisfies our requirement to love God and love others.
I am a beloved Child of God, a daughter of the Most High King. I am an activist for Jesus Christ… I strive to commit my time, my treasures, and my talents, to serve only Him, because I believe Him and I believe in Him and I trust Him. Who do you trust?
John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
