Thank God for Musicians

I've always been comfortable around science, math, geeky logic... I never even noticed the significance of musicians in the Old Testament the first 5, 10, 50 times I passed over their references.

It was during one of life's recovery periods that I switched to a Christian radio station.  It didn't take long to hear the Lord speaking directly to me.

The Right Song at the Right Time?  What a beautiful and effective ministry.

How important is music?

God's Word, in 1 Chronicles 9:33  Those who were musicians, heads of Levite families, stayed in the rooms of the temple and were exempt from other duties because they were responsible for the work day and night.

In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis speaks about the various images the Bible uses for heaven, "Musical instruments are mentioned because for many people (not all) music is the thing known in the present life which most strongly suggest ecstasy and infinity"

If this seems strange to you, spend a few minutes to watch Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman sing, 'Time to Say Goodbye'. I don't even play an instrument, but when I try to imagine being chosen as maybe the 3rd, 12th, or even the 24th violin to be a part of that performance, I think I can just get a glimpse of heaven - before the thought dissipates and I'm left with that sense of longing.

A great way to let God start speaking directly to your heart, might just be through a new choice in music.
