Jesus and Emotions – 11/11/18

Jesus knows you, loves you, and understands you COMPLETELY!

Pg 24 –  Jesus and Emotions

So, last week it was Emotionless, and this week, I’m thinking it’s ALL EMOTIONS.  From the top of my head, to the bottom of my feet….BUT…JESUS UNDERSTANDS and that brings the utmost relief to my soul, as does confession to Him, my great High Priest, Savior and Lord.

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Luke 2:40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

Joyce mentions, “Jesus experienced every emotion and suffered every wrong feeling you and I do, yet without sinning.  Why did He not sin?  Because He did not give in to wrong feelings. “(I would add wrong thinking)

“He knew the Word of God in every area of life because He spent years studying it before He began His ministry.”

I will also add, that He ENTIRELY relied on His Heavenly Father, doing only what pleased Him.

John 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

So…my way of “winging it”, sometimes even thinking it was “being led of the Spirit”, really was just laziness.

If JESUS needed to be prepared, so we need to prepare.  Yes, we are to walk and be led by the Spirit, but today, those terms seem to be associated with all sorts of emotional leading that doesn’t fall in line with the Bible.

Most of us don’t have a problem with being emotionless, but more a problem with too much emotion.

Most of us “FEEL EVERYTHING!”  That is what leads to depression and discouragement and sadness.

The answer is and always has been and always will be the same…

JESUS

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Jesus really is the answer for the world today.  Above Him there is no other.  Jesus is the Way.

Jesus is our Savior, our Healer, our Provider, the One to Whom all our affection belongs because of what He’s done for us.

Question

For us personally, practically, how is Jesus the answer?

I know, deep down in my soul, this is true in every situation, but I’m unsure how to convey that truth to others, without them experiencing personally for themselves.

  1. Jesus is the answer… Tiffany’s favorite bible verse: “And He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will no longer be any death, mourning, crying or pain…” Revelation 21:4-5

When I look at some of the emotions Jesus shows in the bible, they are outwardly focused… (anger at the temple for the disrespect the people were showing for the Lord or weeping over the people of Jerusalem or mourning with others at the death of a loved one).

What you don’t really see in the bible is Jesus having a hissy-fit over what anyone says or does to Him, personally!

We ask ourselves WWJD, but in terms of emotional responses and their validity, sometimes it’s important to see what Jesus did NOT do.

  2. Well, that is a wonderful thought. His whole life was lived to glorify the Father and reveal the Father to others.

    Same as us!

I failed miserably yesterday at work. We had 4 people out sick and I ran into an issue that should have resolved by someone else days earlier. It was so disappointing to me, but instead of remaining at the foot of the cross and humbled, I chose to grumble, even sometimes out loud. I CHOSE it, even in the midst of asking God for help, I still CHOSE self.

Later on in the day I caught a mistake I had made and was humbled again and then cried out to God AGAIN for my choice.

I know Jesus is the answer, and I know that constant prayer is the answer too, as well as actually surrendering my self to Him so He can live through me. I had moments of that yesterday, but only a few.

Today is a new day, walking in God’s grace, remaining connected to Him as He told us to, for without Him we can do nothing. It’s the humbling reminder I need continually!

John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

I think I remember in another book that Joyce said she reminds herself every morning that without Him she can’t do anything.
