Credit Where it Belongs

Many women will tell you how their faith just sprung to life when they gave birth.  My story is not all that different.  It’s been 21 years since I KNEW that God was real.  Yet, 98% of my maturity occurred in the last 6 years.  That left me wandering for 15 years, lost in the desert. The desert that is Las Vegas, NV.

I attended a wonderful church ♥, but fell away as my children started public school.  I became distracted by the ordinary trials of life.  TIME became a cushion between my intentions and what really mattered; a cushion with a deceiving size and shape.  Before I had realized just how large that cushion had grown, years had elapsed between me and my church.

When time is allowed to go unchecked… things happen.  I found myself fighting battle after battle but going nowhere.  My internal GPS started to lock on target when I began to listen to Christian radio, SOS Radio,  https://www.sosradio.net/   

Contemporary Christian artists like Casting Crowns, Matthew West, Tenth Avenue North, Sidewalk Prophets, Mandisa, Toby Mac… so many more, they deserve far more space than I can devote here.  SOS radio also featured programs like Unshackled, In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley, Tony Evans of The Alternative, and Focus on the Family.

It was the influences of these songs and these people who drove me, after battling the same issues again and again and again, to scream:  “GOD!  WITH ALL THE GIFTS YOU’VE GIVEN ME, I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING… BUT THIS?  THIS I CANNOT FIX!  THIS ONE IS YOURS!!!!”  An immediate sense of peace came over me and I laughed at the years I wasted trying to do this on my own!

I am so very thankful for C. S. Lewis – in particular, Mere Christianity, and  The Screwtape Letters.    When I realized that it wasn’t until I BELIEVED, that life got so hard, I found it encouraging to hear someone else’s thoughts on this topic even if that someone passed away the year I was born!

Mere Christianity I read after The Screwtape Letters, I should have done these in the reverse order.

Today I value my relationship with God, my Heavenly Father, His Son Jesus, my Lord and Savior, and The Holy Spirit, who lives in me and has been trying desperately to get my attention for so many years.

It is with GRATITUDE that I hear HIM say:  (Ezekiel 36:26) I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

It is with GRATITUDE that I begin this endeavor courageously and offer myself to serve HIM.  (Joshua 1:9)
