Managing Your Emotions – Introduction – 09/18/2018

Managing Your Emotions Instead of Your Emotions Managing You

This book by Joyce Meyer can be life changing, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

This Bible study can be done at your own pace and the purpose…the GOAL…

To learn how to bring our feelings into line with our faith

I heard in a Christian movie lately that the best way to get revenge is to endure.

As soon as the words were spoken I knew that the best way to get revenge on the devil is to endure…DON’T GIVE UP!

No matter how long or hard the journey is…Jesus understands and He gives us the Holy Spirit to help us every step of the way.

Shall we begin this journey together…

The theme that I noticed throughout this book and in the Bible too is balance.

Not the balance that the world thinks, but balanced in our Christian walk, which includes our emotions.

For those of your that know my husband Roger, you all know he is very much like Dave Meyer, very calm, practical, reasonable, full of wisdom, and BALANCED.

I, on the other hand, have been the exact opposite for a majority of my Christian walk.  I have been excitable, emotional, riding the roller coaster, getting too far on one extreme, then the other extreme, all because of emotions.  In other words…I’ve been UNBALANCED.

God has used Roger, as well as many others, to bring to my attention (whether directly or indirectly) that I need JESUS more and He is the only One Who can bring me and you into balance.

I have even been asked by someone if I was bi-polar.  Anyone struggling with bi-polar disorder fully understands being too high and too low in their emotions.  BUT THERE IS HOPE IN JESUS!

John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

In this study, “Our job is not so much to try to get rid of those emotions, but to learn how to manage them.”

“We serve a God Who is pleased with whatever effort we, as believers in Jesus Christ, make to move in His direction.  God is not hard to please.  He does not expect us to be absolutely perfect.  He just expects us to keep moving toward Him and believing in Him, letting Him work with us to bring us into conformity to His will and ways.”

As I said in one of my recent Scripture of day messages,

As I was listening to a song it said, “Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up” and at that moment I said, out loud, “I don’t need to measure up, Jesus already did!  All I have to is surrender.”

James 4:7 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

  1. Welcome to our first group study, featuring our guest host, Annelie.
Thank you for your time, your love, and your leadership!

  2. I had a friend. Jennifer Johnson, who told me, after Kevin left, that success is the best revenge. 🙂 I wasn’t looking for revenge but I appreciated the thought and it’s always stuck with me.
Thank you for starting this Annelie and thank you Elisa for hosting.
I’m going to go read the Introduction now.

  3. Wow Pat – I know a lot of times, people or WE say the wrong things and tend to make a situation worse than it is, but sometimes we can say things that stick in someone’s mind for years in a good way.

I keep asking God that He would help me not be a miserable comforter the way that Job’s friends were when he was suffering so much.

Job 16:2 I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.

Perhaps, in this study, we’ll not only learn about managing our emotions, but learning to be sensitive to other people’s emotions too.
